At Orri, we believe that recovery from eating disorders should be possible for everyone, regardless of where they are or the severity of their condition. Our mission is grounded in the principle that care must be both compassionate and adaptable, meeting individuals where they are in their recovery journey. It is through innovative partnerships, like our collaboration with NHS Sussex, that we can bring this mission to life, ensuring that the highest quality care is accessible to those who need it most.
Our recent pilots of the virtual intensive day service, “Orri at Home,” exemplify the power of these partnerships. In collaboration with NHS Sussex, we launched the first pilot in November 2022, supporting eight clients with the aim of reducing hospital admissions and shortening lengths of stay. Over the course of 18 weeks, 71% of participants experienced positive outcomes across physical and psychological symptoms. The feedback from clients was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting how the intervention provided essential support during a critical time.
Following the success of the first pilot, a second, extended pilot was launched in February 2024, serving clients from Kent, Medway, and Sussex. This 32-week programme is designed not only to offer continued support but also to ensure that the skills learned in the virtual intensive day service can be seamlessly integrated into everyday life. Early feedback has been encouraging, with patients expressing that they “feel listened to” and that “recovery feels possible” within this extended framework.
These pilots underscore the importance of providing stepped care that evolves with the individual. By offering a continuum of care that ranges from intensive day services to community-based support, we are enabling individuals to remain connected to their everyday lives while receiving the comprehensive care they need. This approach is not only empowering for clients but also contributes to a reduction in hospital admissions, as evidenced by the results from both pilots.
Partnerships like the one we share with NHS Sussex are critical in transforming how eating disorder services are delivered. They allow us to extend our reach and impact, ensuring that more people have access to the care they need, when they need it. Through collaboration, we can innovate and adapt our services to better meet the needs of our patients, making recovery a reality for more individuals. At Orri, we are committed to continuing this work and expanding our partnerships. We believe that by working together, we can create a future where everyone affected by an eating disorder has the opportunity to recover fully and live a life of meaning and fulfilment. It is through these collaborative efforts that we can ensure recovery is not just a possibility, but a reality for all.
