Eating Disorder Group

A specialist online therapy group designed for those who wish to recover from their eating disorder.

Find community in recovery

Eating disorders thrive in isolation. Group therapy, therefore, offers a unique environment to have your experience heard, held, and witnessed by others who understand.

Orri’s Eating Disorder Therapy Group, facilitated by a trained eating disorder therapist, provides a safe, supportive, and understanding environment for individuals struggling with anorexia, bulimia, or other eating disorder diagnoses.

The group offers a space to share experiences, gain insights, build connections, and work toward long-term recovery by addressing the underlying issues that may reinforce the disorder, as well as relapse prevention strategies.

The group is based on an integrative process that incorporates several evidence-based therapies, including:

  • Interpersonal Psychotherapy
  • CBT-E (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders)
  • DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)
  • Psychoeducation
  • Somatic and Mindfulness Approaches

This comprehensive “whole person” approach combines peer support, expert professional guidance, and a focus on long-term recovery.

Group therapy: a tool for recovery

Group therapy is a powerful tool in eating disorder recovery, helping to break the cycle of isolation that often fuels the illness.

While sharing your experiences in a supportive group setting might seem daunting at first, this approach can significantly reduce feelings of shame and fear, fostering a strong sense of community in the process.

Facilitated by an expert eating disorders therapist, this group provides a safe and contained environment where trust is built, allowing members to feel understood and supported. This collective experience can be transformative, promoting healing and resilience on the path to recovery.

  • Expert Clinical Guidance

How it works

This group is designed for individuals over 16 years old who are currently struggling with an eating disorder.

You may combine this group therapy support with individual therapies at Orri’s outpatient service, or externally.

  • Regularity: The group runs weekly on Tuesday evenings, with participants signing up to 12-week cycles
  • Location: The sessions are hosted online, ensuring that they are as accessible as possible around other work and life commitments

With an exception for those attending other Outpatient Services at Orri, each participant will attend an in-depth virtual assessment to learn more about your experience of your eating disorder, and to ensure the group will offer meaningful support to you.

Once the assessment has been conducted, each participant will join a free, 15-minute introductory phone call with the group therapist to discuss any questions you may have before joining the group.
