Eating Disorder Support for Schools

About Orri

We are the UK’s leading specialist private eating disorder clinic.

With our vision of ‘recovery for all’ we provide expert, evidence-based treatment and deliver outstanding outcomes with kindness at the core.

We believe that eating disorder treatment is most effective when we work collaboratively. As such, we work in partnership with schools, NHS trusts, other healthcare providers and charities to support the education and treatment of eating disorders.

As part of our mission for ‘recovery for all’, we are looking to enhance education about eating disorders in the sectors where we know that they exist.

Partner with us

At Orri, we collaborate with forward-thinking schools dedicated to providing exceptional pastoral care. We invite you to join us in making a meaningful impact on the well-being of your students.

We recognise your deep commitment to your pupils’ welfare, and we also understand that eating disorders are complex and often misunderstood.

Our partnership with schools is designed to make a real difference in preventative care by enhancing eating disorder education within academic environments.

How we support schools:

  • Delivering expert training (both online and in-person) for staff, Heads of Year, and pastoral care teams
  • Offering training sessions for parents and carers to better equip them in supporting their children
  • Providing comprehensive resource packs with essential information on recognizing and responding to eating disorders (signs, symptoms, and how to offer support)

"Orri has provided training for our school pastoral staff and nurses on a number of occasions. Their guidance has been extremely helpful: knowledgeable, empathetic and very well targeted to the age of our students. Our staff have a greater understanding of eating disorders and are more confident in early intervention as a result."

Our treatment is rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC.

Why is this important?

Eating disorders are on the rise

Children and young people have seen a 90% rise in eating disorder diagnoses in a five-year period, from 3,541 to 6,713 episodes, and a 35.4% increase in the last year alone. (source)

Eating disorder onset is highest for adolescents and young adults

Puberty is a vulnerable period for the onset of eating disorders and other mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, which can exacerbate eating disorder symptoms. Research indicates that hormonal changes during puberty play a key role in this. These shifts can lead to the development of eating disorders in various ways, including the solidification of new beliefs or behaviors in the adolescent brain due to hormonal and neurological changes. Early intervention saves lives

Research confirms that early intervention (that is, early identification and treatment of an eating disorder) improves the speed of recovery, reduces symptoms to a greater extent, and improves the likelihood of long-term recovery. (source)

Resources for parents

Supporting someone with an eating disorder can be incredibly challenging as it not only requires a lot from us, but it also touches our own vulnerabilities and fears.

People talk of eating disorders as “family illnesses”, referring to how the impact of an eating disorder is not just isolated to the individual with the diagnosis, but rather, impacts all family members in different ways.

We believe that involving parents and carers is incredibly helpful for recovery, because the eating disorder exists outside of treatment, touching areas of a person’s life. You have a unique opportunity here to support them.

Resources for students

You may not have all the answers right now, but knowing that something isn’t quite right about your relationship to food and your body is an important first step.

While eating disorders can seem complex and confusing, we believe they serve a unique purpose or function, which can be healed for long-term recovery.

This understanding shapes our approach at Orri. Our treatment combines various therapeutic modalities to address the underlying causes of the eating disorder while simultaneously healing day-to-day behavioural symptoms. At the heart of our care is a commitment to compassion and kindness.
