Who are specialist day programmes for?
Our specialist day programmes are intensive, 6-week programmes of treatment for those at different points in their recovery journey.
Treatment takes place during the day, and our approach treats all aspects of the mind and body through group and individual therapy.
Our programmes follow a “stepped approach“, meaning that the intensity and duration is unique to the individual and programmes adapt in line with clients’ progress in recovery.
You may feel as though you’ve tried every treatment in the world and want to explore something completely different. If this is the case, an day programme may suit you.
Alternatively, you may be starting out in your recovery journey but are ready to prioritise it. No matter where you’re at in recovery, we are here to discuss your options.
We want you to regain the joys and pleasures of everyday life without the overbearing presence and restriction of an eating disorder.
What’s more, we don’t want to remove you from your day-to-day lives to do this.
Our programmes focus on what you are recovering to, rather than what you are recovering from.
“My first experience of Orri was one of nervous relief. I had never encountered people who sincerely wanted to know ME and what I wanted from treatment, and ultimately, my life.”

More about our approach.
Eating disorders are not about the food, rather, food is a symptom of other complex and often deep-rooted issues that are unique to the individual.
Because of this, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to treating eating disorders. We combine a number of evidence-based approaches to address the unique needs of every individual.
“From our first meeting I knew my child would be in the safest hands. The Orri Clinic gave my daughter the confidence and strength to face recovery. I will be forever grateful.”

Our programmes are comprised of:
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy helps to restore healthy behavioural patterns and regulate the areas that may have suffered trauma and subsequently drive dysfunction.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach, so we combine a number of approaches to address an individual’s needs. Our experienced practitioners offer a variety of evidence-based therapies, including:
- Attachment Based Therapy
- Mentalisation Based Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
- Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
- Expressive & Creative Arts Therapies
- Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing
- Internal Family Systems Therapy
- MANTRA (Maudsley Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults)
- Psychodrama
Psychiatry
Every client’s programme is managed by a multi-disciplinary team which includes world-class psychiatrists.
Dr. Paul Robinson, Director of Research and Development, is a Consultant Adult Psychiatrist best known for his promotion of intensive community treatment to minimise the need for hospital care. He is a founder member and former chair of the eating disorders faculty at the Royal College of Psychiatrists, has authored two College Reports and wrote the national guidelines for managing Anorexia Nervosa in general hospital settings, known as MARSIPAN.
“My Psychiatrist has been continuously supportive and positive. I have always felt very listened to during these sessions.” – Client
Dietetics
We do dietetics a little differently at Orri. We do not to talk about calories, nor do we lay down rules. People with eating disorders already have a lot of rules—to the point that these rules dictate how they live their lives. So rather than replace one set of rules with another, our team – led by our Senior Dietitian – prefer to focus on progress and steps forward, rather than food itself.
Every meal is supported by therapists and experienced eating disorder professionals. When clients struggle at mealtimes, the team step in to offer support, new approaches and understanding as clients make sustainable changes.
To strengthen intuitive eating, on arrival each day our clients choose what they’d like to eat from a menu. Everything is home-cooked and served in our beautiful basement kitchen by our resident Head Chef, Scott.
“Talking about food all the time feeds the eating disorder—it’s exactly what it wants and how it controls you” — Paula Tait, Senior Dietitian
Yoga and Body-Based Therapy
“I love the relaxation element.” – Client
We offer a unique range of body-based therapies. Our Yoga and Body Awareness Therapist, Pippa Richardson, is an experienced yoga teacher, working primarily with people in recovery. Her approach is to unify body and mind, using a combination of yoga, mindfulness and meditation to help people connect their bodies with their feelings.
“Eating disorders invite disconnection. To prevail, eating disorder behaviours – be it restricting, purging, or binging – require a disconnect from the self, from what the body wants and needs.” – Kerrie Jones, Clinical Director
Pippa runs different yoga sessions each week: teaching the fundamentals of an embodied practice, introducing flow, and learning to rest and let go. Body-Based Therapy involves both talking and mind-body exercises. This process encourages clients to experience emotional and physical sensations and learn to navigate them by regulating their nervous system with a combination of awareness, mindfulness and self-care.
“Rather than it always being about the head looking at the body, body image works from the inside out, healing those pathways that allow someone to feel at ease in their body.” — Elaine Rutherford, Yoga and Body Awareness Therapist
Group Sessions
At the heart of the Orri community is a therapeutic process that incorporates group sessions led by experienced therapists. Orri provides a space that offers containment, consistency and care to support those who are taking the courageous step of exploring and understanding their eating disorder.
For many, eating disorders offer a way of enduring painful experiences, past and present. The eating disorder is therefore felt as central to their survival. The move towards recovery requires understanding, support and time.
Whilst many feel understandably apprehensive at first, the group therapy process offers an invaluable experience from which clients get support, feedback and grow confidence. Clients draw strength from others during group sessions, and also take pleasure in seeing others draw strength from them.
“The act of revealing oneself fully to another and still being accepted may be the major vehicle of therapeutic help.” — Irvin D. Yalom, author of The Gift of Therapy
“I feel it is a collaborative relationship.” – Client
Why does this approach work for eating disorders?
By returning home during the evening and on weekends whilst engaging with our day treatment, you’ll remain connected to your everyday life.
This is important because the further you progress in recovery – and the less treatment you need – the easier the transition will be back into everyday life without support from us.
As you learn different skills at Orri, you can practice them independently away from our treatment centre and then talk through any issues with us, as and when they arise. With the same team supporting them each step of the way, there is always someone here to listen and offer guidance.
“The most comprehensive programme I have ever experienced.”
