Orri Wins ‘Best Provider of Mental Health Services’

London, 21 March 2025 – Orri, the UK’s only CQC-rated ‘Outstanding’ specialist eating disorder treatment clinic, is proud to announce that it has been awarded ‘Best Provider of Mental Health Services’ at the HSJ Independent Healthcare Providers Awards 2025.

This prestigious award recognises independent healthcare providers making outstanding contributions to mental health care, improving access, patient outcomes, and service efficiency. Orri was honoured for its pioneering Orri Online virtual treatment programme, developed in partnership with the NHS Kent and Sussex Adult Eating Disorders Provider Collaborative, which has expanded access to specialist eating disorder care and improved patient recovery outcomes.

Addressing the UK’s Eating Disorder Crisis

Eating disorders remain one of the deadliest mental health conditions, with a growing demand for specialist services:

  • NHS admissions for eating disorders exceeded 30,000 for the first time in 2023/24
  • Only 23% of people with eating disorders receive psychological treatment
  • 12.5% of 17–19-year-olds have an eating disorder, rising to 20.8% among young women
  • At least 2–3 million people in the UK are affected, yet access to care is still limited

“Too many individuals and families are left struggling to access timely, effective treatment.” says Kerrie Jones, CEO and Founder of Orri. “At Orri, we believe that recovery is possible for all, and this award highlights our commitment to ensuring more people receive specialist, compassionate support when they need it.”

Orri Online: A Virtual Breakthrough in Eating Disorder Treatment

The Orri Online pilot, developed in partnership with the NHS Kent and Sussex Adult Eating Disorders Provider Collaborative, offers an online intensive day treatment service to support individuals who might otherwise struggle to access care due to location or availability. The programme provided:

  • 5-day-a-week structured treatment in a virtual setting
  • Seamless step-down from inpatient care or step-up from community services
  • Personalised support with a focus on self-efficacy, independence, and relapse prevention

Pilot Outcomes:

  • 71% of clients gained weight in a healthy, sustainable way (+1.5kg to +5.7kg)
  • 57% of clients showed improvements in psychological symptoms (EDE-Q & DASS surveys)
  • High patient satisfaction – 100% of participants said they would recommend Orri

Pilot 2 outcomes:

  • 50% of clientsgained weight, with weight restoration ranging from +0.4kg to +14.8kg.
  • Of the 90% of clients that completed outcome questionnaires:
    • 100% showed a reduction in restriction
    • 50% demonstrated a reduction in shape concern according to the EDE-Q.
    • 57% showed a reduction in weight and eating concerns
    • According to the DASS, 75%reported a reduction in depression, anxiety, and stress

Due to its success, Orri Online is now a full-service offering, ensuring that more individuals across the UK can access specialist eating disorder care, regardless of their location.

A Strong NHS Partnership

Dr Sara McCluskey, Consultant Psychiatrist for the Kent and Sussex Adult Eating Disorders Provider Collaborative, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Orri to deliver this innovative service, which is receiving such wonderful feedback from people who need specialist support with eating disorders. The Orri service means that rather than be admitted to hospital for treatment, people can remain at home for their care, which helps them to feel more in control of their recovery. The virtual delivery means that people across Kent, Medway, and Sussex can access intensive treatment.”

A Blueprint for Future NHS Partnerships

This collaboration demonstrates the power of public-private partnerships in transforming mental health care.

  • The pilot has already expanded, with a second programme launched in February 2024, increasing from 8 to 10 patients and extending the treatment duration to 32 weeks based on patient needs.
  • The programme is now contracted through 2026, further embedding it into NHS Sussex’s service provision.
  • The success of Orri’s model has attracted interest from other NHS trusts, positioning it as a scalable, replicable solution for improving eating disorder care nationwide.
