One of our Alumni clients shares a poem inspired by her self-discovery and growth throughout her eating disorder recovery.
“Nearly two years ago, whilst I was in treatment at Orri, I crafted a poem in a session with Victoria, that now stands as a testament to my arduous journey of self-discovery and personal growth. My path to anorexia recovery was a turning point in my life, and one that brought to light the realisation that true beauty is an intrinsic quality that emanates from within, and that the qualities that matter most are the ones that are beyond surface-level appearance. Through my struggles, I came to the profound realisation that being kind and empathetic is far more valuable than striving for superficial perfection.
My hope is that my journey and this poem, may inspire others to embrace their own unique qualities and allow their inner light to shine bright, because that is what truly matters in this world. Let my words be a beacon of hope and inspiration for those who are currently embroiled in their own struggles and are battling with their demons. Remember, you are not alone and that the path to recovery may be arduous, but it is a journey that is worth embarking upon.”
I want people to fondly recall my kindness,
I want a gentle hug to envelope them when a memory of me,
Appears within their mind.
I want my loved ones to always feel like I understood them
I want to leave this world knowing I brought light into the lives,
Of those loved and who loved me.
I want people to share our memories over the dinner table,
With huge cheesy grins painted across their faces.
I want to be remembered for my soul,
My values, my traits & my personality.
I don’t wish to be remembered for how I look,
For the outside appearance of my soul.
I don’t want to be remembered for some superficial trait
That society praised.
Because what a sad life I would have lived, for my
Only memorable factors to be entwined within appearances.
