1,000 Journeys, 1 Vision: Recovery for All

It doesn’t seem that long ago since Orri opened its doors on a cold February morning in 2019. Our recently decorated building at 14 Hallam St seemed very big for the few clients we welcomed on that first day. Now, only 5 years later, we have outgrown our first home and are proud to be able to announce we have now supported over 1,000 individuals on their path to recovery.

This milestone is more than a number – it’s a testament to the strength of those we’ve had the privilege to walk alongside and the dedication of our team who make recovery possible every day.

At the core of Orri is our vision: Recovery for all. Through our innovative model of care, we provide a structured and compassionate option for early intervention, as well as an alternative to traditional inpatient care. Our approach treats the whole person, not just the eating disorder, and empowers clients to remain connected to their families and communities – connections that are critical for long-term recovery.

Over the five years, we’ve expanded our services to offer a full pathway of care with the addition of online and outpatient services. This expansion ensures we can support individuals at every stage of recovery, providing continuity of care as they navigate transitions and rebuild their lives in recovery.

We do however know that there is still a long way to go to ensuring that recovery is available to all. Lord Darzi’s Independent Investigation into the NHS reported there has been an 82% increase in hospital admissions for eating disorders since we opened our doors. We are confident that early intervention is the right approach to tackle this growing need with Beat’s recent report, There’s No Place Like Home, demonstrating the critical role of community-based and day treatment services.

We are proud to have been able to provide much-needed services both for the private sector and alongside several NHS Trusts over the last 5 years, but our first 1,000 clients are just a first step towards our vision. As we always say here at Orri, “one step at a time...”

With hospital admissions for eating disorders soaring, approaches like Orri’s are more essential than ever. Our data shows that 38% of our clients have avoided hospitalisation due to the support of intensive day treatment, and with a 76% recovery rate – compared to the sector average of 46% – our outcomes speak volumes about the effectiveness of this approach.

As we celebrate reaching this milestone of 1,000 clients, we want to express our gratitude:

  • To our clients and their families, for entrusting us with your care and allowing us to be part of your recovery journeys
  • To our incredible team, whose expertise, compassion, and unwavering dedication have made these 1,000 stories of resilience, courage, and triumph possible
  • To Beat, for championing community-based care and helping to shift the conversation around eating disorder treatment in the UK

This milestone reflects our commitment to setting a new standard for eating disorder treatment – one that prioritises the individual and their family, embraces the complexity of recovery, and offers tailored support at every stage of the journey.

Here’s to 1,000 stories of hope and transformation – and to the many more waiting to be written. Together, we are shaping a future where recovery truly is for all.
