In response to the government’s anti-obesity legislation, our community member has launched a petition against calorie labeling on restaurant menus.
On the 28th September 2021, I sent the letter below, regarding the legislation that eating establishments with more than 250 employees must provide calorie information on their menus, to Health Secretary Rt Hon. Sajid Javid.
This is something that I feel passionately about, having faced my own battle with Anorexia for nearly 10 years.
On the 8th November, I recieved what I can only describe as an unsatisfactory response, not from Rt Hon. Sajid Javid, but from another government minister. I have since requested to meet with them personally to discuss this matter further.
I, as I am sure many of you reading this will agree, believe that this legislation, if passed, will have a profoundly negative effect on those who currently suffer from, or may be at risk of developing eating disorders.
It would really help strengthen this argument if I had further evidence to take to my meeting, in order to ensure that as many voices as possible can be heard and represented on this issue.
If you would like to add your name to the petition, please click this link and fill in your details. For your signature to be counted, you must click the link in the follow-up email to confirm your email address.
I very much hope that you will assist me in my campaign. I will not be backing down until I know I have done everything in my power to put a stop to what I believe is an incredibly sad, misguided and frankly dangerous move by the government.
